Just a Reminder

There will be no PTA meeting this month. However, Mr. Larsen wanted to know if the PTA would be willing to sing a Christmas Carol later this next week. Please let me know if you are interested. So far we have 3 people. I would like to have at least 8! Let me know!

Mickie Mouse Costumes - Adult sizes

Red Ribbon Week - October 18-22

Keeping our Kids Free from Drugs and other Addictions

Monday - Wear your sweats day - Don't sweat it-help your friends stay drug free!

Tuesday - Hat Day - Use your head, don't do drugs. (wear your favorite or craziest hat)

Wednesday - Decade Day - Dress as your favorite decade and remember: drugs are always out of style!

Thursday - Nerd Day - Dress as a nerd and remember: avoiding addictions is the SMART thing to do!

Friday - It's the first day of the Book Fair! Help us kick off the theme by dressing up like an "Everyday Hero" (teacher, police, doctor, crossing guard, etc.) YOU can be a hero by avoiding drugs and addictions!

As many of you are aware, next week our Artists in Residency begins at Rees School.  There are 5 artists coming for 10 days, starting September 27th.  Because of stipulations set by the Utah Arts Council, there needs to be another adult with the artist while they are teaching.  After utilizing all the teachers, there is still a need to have volunteers from the PTA.  The wish of the Arts Committee at Rees is that these volunteers would be the same person.  However, if that is not possible, they would like to have one volunteer for a week, and then another volunteer for the second week.  Below are the times that our help is needed:  9:15 - 10:05: 1 person is needed  10:10 - 11:00 : 2 people are needed (only M,W,F for 1)  11:10 - 12:00 : 1 person is needed  If you are available to help at ANY of these times, please call Suzee.  Because this starts this Monday, we need to know quickly if you can help.  Thanks so much for all that you do.

Green Ribbon Week - September 20th - 25th

Green Ribbon week. Keeping our Children Healthy and Safe! September 20th - 25th. We look forward to a fun week filled with fun theme days. The theme days are as follows:

Monday: Walk to school day! Crazy mismatch feet! Wear any kind of funny shoe and/or sock for healthy happy feet! Safety walk, help your child choose a safe route to school.

Tuesday: Picture of Health! School Picture Day, wear your best!

Wednesday: Jersey Day! Show us your favorite sports team. Then get out and play!

Thursday: Pajama Day! Get a good nights sleep, and then wear your pajamas to school!

Friday: Crazy Hair Day! It's crazy to not be safe! (no unnatural hair colors please)

PTA Recap

We were so happy to be joined by so many people at this meeting! Mr. Larsen says we will need to move into the teacher's lounge for our next meeting, so we can have room!!! Thanks to all those who came.
We passed out the budget information. If you are a chair or a co-chair of a committee and you were not at meeting, please contact either Suzee, Camille, Tiffany, Tanya or Kristina for your budget information and a list of your committee.
We discussed Green Ribbon Week. The dress up days were assigned. We picked activities to do. We also discussed instead of having an assembly, we would try to find people who have made safe or healthy choices to come during announcements. If you have a story you could share, PLEASE contact a PTA board member!
We also talked about our upcoming 5K race. Our fundraising committee has done an excellent job on this. Please support them by signing up to run or walk the race!
Our PTA membership is up TREMENDOUSLY this year!! Last year we had around 90 members. This year we are sitting around 140. Way to go guys!!!!!!
We voted on giving teachers money to fund their classrooms again this year. We decided to keep the amount the same as last year. We will make this donation soon. It is exciting to put PTA funds to such good use!
We discussed our up coming Reflections contest. The contest will start on September 17th. It will run until October 27th. There will be an early bird drawing for those who get their projects turned in by October 1st. The theme this year is "Together We Can". Should be great!!! We have a lot of awesome ladies working hard on this. Please support your child and have them enter one or more of the categories. Packets are available in the office.
Mr. Larsen thanked us for all our hard work, and the meeting was adjourned. Short and sweet. Just the way we like them!!!

Rees Elementary 5K - Fundraiser

The Family Fitness 5K and Kids Mile Race
Saturday, September 25,2010 at Rees Elementary.

9am - 5K Race
10am - Kids Mile Race
10:30am - Prize Drawing - Must have registered and must be present to win. :)

Registration Fees for the 5K:
$8.00 Through September 20th
$10.00 September 21-24
$15.00 Day of Race Registration

No Charge for the Kids Mile Race

A registration waiver form MUST be filled out. The forms are located on the Rees Elementary Website http://www.nebo.edu/rees/ click on the 'events' tab.

The 5K is a PTA fundraiser - all money earned will be put directly back into the school!

Back to School Night - September 2nd @ 6:30pm

Now that mostly everyone has gotten through the first few days of school, We are looking forward to Back To School Night on Thursday, September 2nd @6:30p.m. If you have not yet signed up for PTA or have any questions regarding the PTA, please come to Back To School night so we can sign you up and answer any questions you may have. We look forward to seeing you all there! We have some exciting changes with PTA this year, so come on and join to see what all the fun is about! :-) Everyone is welcome to join no matter how much or how little you can help out. Chairs and Co-Chairs

We would like to thank those who have signed up to help out with all the committee's this year! We still need a chair and co-chair for the committee's listed below. We already have people signed up, we just need someone to be over these committee's.

Carnival Committee - Responsible for calling everyone who signed up and delegate the help needed. Coordinate people to help with food and silent auction.

Green Ribbon Week Committee - Responsible for calling everyone who signed up and delegate the help needed. Coordinate Health and Safety Week (Sep. 20-24), come up with Theme days, find an assembly, provide safe walk to school, hand out safety contracts, hand out green ribbons, and any other ideas necessary.

Jump-A-Thon Committee- Responsible for calling everyone who signed up and delegate the help needed. Coordinate finding parents to help. (April 29th)

Red Ribbon Week Committee - Responsible for calling everyone who signed up and delegate the help needed. Coordinate Drug Free Week (Oct. 18-22), come up with Theme days, find an assembly, provide education materials, hand out red bracelets, and any other ideas necessary.

Room Helper Committee - Responsible for calling everyone who signed up and delegate the help needed. Coordinate Room Mother Tea (Sept.8), Coordinate Teacher Want lists, help coordinate silent auction baskets for year end carnival (May)

Online Registration Information

Remember to check out the new parent page at http://www.nebo.edu/parents before registration on Tuesday, August 3rd. You can now update your child's/children's student contact information online to save time on registration day! Registration will go from 8:00am to 4:00 pm for all new and returning students. If you are not able to come that day, please contact the school ASAP to let them know if your child/children will be attending Rees this year.

PTA Committee Sign ups!

We have made some fun changes to the PTA this year. One of those changes is what we sign up for. We no longer have a 'general' PTA committee. We hope to make the PTA easier for everyone this year, so we will now have individual committees for each event that happens at Rees! 1st PTA Meeting for 2010-2011

Hope your summer is going well!  Can you believe that school starts so soon?  I can't!!!
I am not ready at all!  We have had a crazy, crazy summer.  I don't know if any of you are aware,
but I had some serious health issues this summer and ended up spending about a week in the hospital.
My health still isn't 100% and probably won't be for a while.  Because of this, I have had to slow down
a lot and reevaluate things.  PTA is one of those things that I have had to reevaluate.  
Although I have LOVED being so involved, I am going to need a LOT of help this year.
SO, hopefully, you all will talk to your friends and neighbors and make it a goal to get at 
least one new member to come to our first meeting.  It will be held on 
Thursday, July 29, at 10:00 a.m. in the library at the school.  Please make it a priority to be there.
We will be discussing the changes that are being made this year with our PTA board.  
We will also be looking for ideas for the year.  Please come with your excitement to make this a good 
year at Rees.  We really have a great PTA!  You guys are awesome!  I appreciate all that you did last 
year for the school and the kids.  This year should be another great year!  We will see you next
Thursday!

Kindergarten and 6th Grade Graduation Pictures

Pictures for Kindergarten and 6th Grade will be taken on Wednesday March 31st. They will provide a cap and gown for this picture and each child will recieve a free picture at their graduation ceremonies.

Kindergarten Registration

Kindergarten Registration will be held Tuesday March 23rd. It will be held from 7:30 till 4:00. We are looking for volunteers to help this day, we need 2 people for each slot, you will help with PTA memberships and selling t-shirts. I will be emailing everyone with the schedule, so if you can help please reply to all so we will all know which spots are being filled. If you do not recieve an email and are willing to help please contact Kristina or Suzee. The shifts are going to be about 3 hours long. Thanks for all your help!
